Prayer Alert: Pastor Coco Perez is Having Neck Surgery Monday
By Troy Anderson
Our beloved Battle Ready Ministries Board Director, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Pastor Coco Perez is having neck surgery on Monday and we’d like to ask you to pray for a successful surgery.
“I’m in critical condition right now,” says Coco, lead pastor at Horizon Church in West Sacramento. “If I fall down and hit my head, or if I get in a fender-bender at 30 miles-per-hour, I could be a quadriplegic, so I have been walking by faith. I have been walking by faith for 15 years (since my last neck surgery) when I spent 26 weeks paralyzed from the neck down, so I did not want to come back to the hospital to have another surgery, but now I have to.”
On Monday, Coco is going to the hospital for a laminectomy, a type of surgery in which a surgeon removes part or all of the vertebral bone (lamina), helping ease pressure on the spinal cord.
“They are going to cut out the middle bone (in his neck) to relieve pressure on my spinal cord,” Coco says. “Afterward, I ought to have all of my feeling back and I’ll be out of the critical zone.”
We know the Lord is a God of miracles, and that He has many more important things for Pastor Coco to do, so we’d like to ask everyone who subscribes to Battle Ready Ministries News to pray for the Lord to guide the hands of the doctors and nurses during his surgery on Monday and to provide him with supernatural healing.
“I’ve never seen so many miracles in our lives,” Coco says. “My wife Lynn just had a miracle. When she was about 8 years old, she got rheumatic fever. It affects your heart, and it really does not start to manifest until you’re older, so when she was 19, she had a heart infection. Can you imagine your heart getting infected? You can only have two of those. The third one will kill you.
“She had two of them. For the past six years, she has gone to Stanford, Sutter Hospital, and now University of California, Davis, and a real miracle has happened. She went in for a heart catheter two weeks ago. It is not a big deal. They send a camera up and take pictures. They came back to me afterward and said her heart looks fantastic and the pericardial, what they were going to surgically remove, looks wonderful. So, I just thank God for the miracle of my wife Lynn and her heart problem. It’s really a miracle.”
Once he recovers from his surgery, Coco says he plans to reach out to about 20 pastors who have expressed interest in holding Battle Ready Ministries conferences at their churches.
“I am really excited about the many pastors that are beginning to respond,” Coco says. “It’s taken awhile, but that has been a real blessing because there are about 20 pastors that have responded and that are really starting to get the urgency of the last days and that it’s time to take action with their congregations and teach them how to be battle ready, to use The Military Guide to Armageddon, The Military Guide to Armageddon Basic Training Manual study guide, and The Military Guide to Armageddon Basic Training Manual Leader’s Guide, and the upcoming book, The Military Guide to Disarming Deception, because the whole problem of deception is so prevalent now in the world and in the Church as well. There is just deception happening everywhere.”
1 Peter 5:10 says: “And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
Coco says this verse gives him great hope because it says that after one has suffered a “little while,” that the Lord will “make you strong, firm and steadfast.”
“In the Greek language, those last three words are construction terms about building a house, so it’s pretty powerful,” Coco says. “I’ve suffered for a little while, but I have joy in my heart, I’ve never lost joy and I’ve just been blessed these past 15 years. God has built my faith.”
My wife Irene Anderson says she’d like to encourage you to start a prayer chain among family and friends for Coco’s surgery on Monday.
“(Saddleback Church) Pastor Rick Warren does this all the time, asking the whole congregation to pray for his challenging health condition,” says Irene, who creates Battle Ready Ministries videos, graphics and newsletters. “Pastor Coco was incredibly grateful and graciously said yes. He was very touched by it. He believes in power of prayer and is so grateful that we are doing this for him.
“The Bible tells us we ought to pray for each other. I believe that this will be a great faith builder for all board members, friends of the board and all subscribers, and unify the Body of Christ to pray for each other.”
Here is a prayer that you can pray:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Please watch over our dearest, beloved Battle Ready Ministries family member, Pastor Coco, as he goes into surgery. Give him and his family peace and still their anxious hearts. Direct the doctors’ hands skillfully as they undergo surgery on our precious friend, Pastor Coco.
The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
So, we trust that Your hand will be upon Pastor Coco and his family and let them be comforted by Your presence in the operating and waiting room. Allow Your light to shine through Pastor Coco to the doctors and nurses around him. Let them see Your joy and peace upon his face.
Thank You Lord for the gift that Pastor Coco is to us at Battle Ready Ministries. We trust that You are in control over everything and that You will be in the surgery room with him.
We thank Pastor Coco for his encouragement, support, and priceless joy that he has been to us here at Battle Ready Ministries. Please show us how to best support and love him, his wife and family during this time and afterward.
Abba Father, I know that You alone have created and are in control over all things. We believe that you have control of the outcome of Pastor Coco’s surgery!
Job 42:2 says: “I know that You can do everything, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.”
So, we pray that pastor Coco and his family will feel Your presence today and always, relying on Your strength and not their own, and be reminded of the truth: that You have everything in Your hand and Pastor Coco has your care and favor always.
Lord, we acknowledge Your sovereignty. You are Sovereign over all things, and You are the Healing Physician. We lift up Pastor Coco to you.
We thank you in advance for being with pastor Coco before he goes into surgery. In Your Word, You have promised that it is You who goes before us. Even though he cannot always feel You near him, Pastor Coco knows and trusts that You are there.
Thank You for the surgery that is happening. Thank You that when Pastor Coco is unconscious in the operating room, Your Presence will be surrounding him and comforting his mind. We are so thankful that You are always with him.
Isaiah 41:10 says: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Please let Pastor Coco feel Your presence go with him as he goes into the doctor’s office today. Be with him as You have promised.
You have promised to never leave or forsake us. Please stay with Pastor Coco when he wakes up and goes through the healing and recovery process.
Thank You that Pastor Coco and his family do not have to fear anything because You are with them. Please allow this surgery to go well and let him serve You all the rest of the days of his life.
We trust You, Lord, in every season and every moment. Be with pastor Coco on Monday in the days to come.
In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen.
