On May 7, 2025, the Catholic Church elected its 267th pope—Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago, now known as Pope Leo XIV. For the first time in history, an American has ascended to the throne of St. Peter. And the timing couldn’t be more prophetic.

Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, hails from Chicago, Illinois—a city more known for politics than pontiffs. He studied theology near Philadelphia and went on to spend decades as a missionary in Peru, where he became known for his commitment to social justice and reconciliation.
He is a member of the Order of St. Augustine, a religious order with deep intellectual and spiritual roots in Church history.
